Getting There & Where to Stay
If you’re travelling from outside Madrid, here’s a simple guide to help you plan your trip and stay.
Getting to Madrid
Madrid is well connected by both air and rail.
By plane
Madrid-Barajas (MAD) is the main airport, with direct flights from across Europe, including Iceland, at very reasonable prices.
From the airport, the city centre is easy to reach by metro (Line 8, about 30 minutes) or taxi (around €30–35).
By train
If you’re coming from another Spanish city, the AVE high-speed train is the most comfortable option. Atocha station is central and has direct connections from Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, and more.
Where to Stay
If it’s your first time in Madrid, staying central makes everything easier.
Madrid has plenty of great neighbourhoods. These are the ones that work best for the wedding:

- Salamanca — elegant, quiet, well connected
- Retiro / Jerónimos — next to the park, relaxed feel
- Centro / Sol — right in the heart of the city
- Chueca / Malasaña — lively, great restaurants and bars

Getting Around
Once you’re in Madrid, getting around is easy and stress-free.
Metro
The metro is extensive, clean and very easy to navigate. You can buy a 10-trip card (Multi) or pay per journey. It runs until after midnight.
Taxi & rideshare
Official taxis are safe and affordable. Apps like Cabify and Free Now work well across Madrid and let you pay by card.
